Accident on the Trail
By Ruth Rin
Older couple, we have grown
Used to Covid-work from home.
Seeking respite from it all,
We set out on a nature stroll.
Soon we found a lovely trail
Good country air we did inhale.
Started strolling, eased the mind,
Out of nowhere, from behind,
Speeding bike harshly smacked my back,
I fell to the ground! Oh! What a whack!
From the pain I was reeling
Oh, so distant seemed the healing!
Nine-one-one we were summoning
Reassured us help forthcoming.
First responders soon were sent
To ease my pain they were intent.
Neck in collar, board to back,
Up to the gurney, with a knack.
To the ER, in the ambulance ride
Felt each pothole in my side.
A CAT-scan image did reveal
Three fractured ribs, with weeks to heal.
Longing to recuperate,
And these old bones rejuvenate.
With best efforts I do try
Yoga movements to apply.
Now for the passing of time I appeal
That these weary bones shall quickly heal.
