Suddenly we long
For a family meal
For a meeting with a friend
For trivial chat that is real

Suddenly we long
For joy-filled streets
For open restaurants,
For a haircut treat

Suddenly we long
For people to smile
Instead of seeing each
As an enemy all the while

Suddenly we long
For warmth and touch
Without fearing 
The dreaded virus so much.

Suddenly we long
To rise for work each day
To return home tired,
Plan grand vacations away

Suddenly we know
That the bottom line is
Wow – We had it pretty good
Until a few weeks ago

For those who always complained
Under routine’s blessed grace
Reality has struck
A blow to the face.
